Troye Sivan Says He Was Catfished By Russian Pranksters Pretending To Be Greta Thunberg

Singer Troye Sivan has revealed he was catfished by Russian pranksters who masqueraded as environmental activist Greta Thunberg and her father (the very same charlatans who previously duped Prince Harry).

“Story time: I got catfished. I’m bored and I’ve wanted to tell this story for ages,” the 24-year-old captioned a video on Insta.

It all started when Troye‘s manager got a phone call from someone pretending to be Greta‘s dad. The prankster said they were planning something called “Stars Save the Earth” and they had a whole list of items to cover that included swimming with sharks with Leonardo DiCaprio, saving the animals in Africa with Prince Harry, and more.

“I was like, ‘Oh my god, this girl is so inspiring, and now she wants to work with me.’ That’s crazy,” Troye said in the video.

Troye‘s manager gave the pranksters his phone number and Troye only texted with the fake Greta before realising it was BS.

After Troye‘s manager talked on the phone with the “dad,” they watched a video of Greta‘s real dad and realised it wasn’t the same person.

Prince Harry previously fell for the prank earlier this year.

According to The Sun, the pranksters made two phone calls to Harry’s Canadian residence, on New Year’s Eve and January 22. During the phone calls, Harry spoke about his and Meghan Markle‘s decision to step down as senior royals.

“Sometimes the right decision isn’t always the easy one,” Harry reportedly told the pair.

“I can assure you, marrying a Prince or Princess is not all it’s made out to be! And this decision certainly wasn’t the easy one but it was the right decision for our family, the right decision to be able to protect my son.

“And I think there’s a hell of a lot of people around the world that can identify and respect us for putting our family first. But, yeah, it’s a tricky one, but we will start a new life.”

Prince Harry reportedly told the pranksters the decision was made to “protect” their son, Archie, and insisted the couple weren’t stripped of their royal titles.

“No, no, again you mustn’t believe what you read, no one has stripped us of our titles,” he said.

“Because of a technicality within the family, if we are earning money separately from within the family structure, then we obviously have been asked not to use our titles in order to make money, which we would never do.

“But the press managed to jump on that to make it look like we had been stripped.”

The Russian pranksters are named Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, also known as Vovan and Lexus.
