Tropfest Pulls Up Stumps At City, Announces Move To Parramatta In 2017

Hey, short film fans – remember the hullabaloo around the future of Tropfest, and the fears that 2016’s rendition would be its last?

Well, cop this. After an utterly hectic year for the legitimately iconic fest, it’s been revealed the movie-palooza will be going ahead in its 25th year – at Parramatta Park. The news marks a radical, and literal, departure from the festival’s more recent home Sydney’s Centennial Park.
Not only that, but the event will take place on a Saturday night when it rolls around on February 11 next year. That’s a pretty decent logistical step-up from the fest’s previous Sunday night outings, and you’d think it’ll entice more punters to cop some Aussie cinema without the threat of a bleary Monday morning.
At an event including none other than Aussie cinema royalty George Miller and Sam Neill, the fest’s head honcho John Polson said it’s a “destination we could fully embrace and call our own,” with space to expand in future years into what they call a “multi event festival.”
That’s a pretty bloody grand outlook for an event that came thiiis close to imploding. Late last year, Tropfest seemed all but done for due to some less-than-stellar financial situations behind the scenes. After some last-minute swooping from new sponsors, this year’s Tropfest managed to deliver the goods, once again.

But next time around, you’ll be heading to western Sydney to catch the latest in stop-motion madness.
