The Treasurer Mentioned A “Scoop Dogg” (?) Twice On ‘The Project’ Tonight

Nobody expects politicians to be regular people. Nearly every politician in Australia comes from one of a handful of private schools and an even smaller handful of sandstone universities. They were all involved with the same student political groups, all worked at the same political thinktanks, all had parents that were in the same secret ritual sex magic societies. Most of them have never had to set foot in the real world and, while that completely sucks, we all understand it to be true. We (the voters) do not pretend otherwise. Politicians love pretending otherwise.

They try and drop extremely laboured Australian-isms into their speeches like we won’t notice how forced they were. They claim loyalty to the footy teams of their new electorates as if we didn’t notice them doing the exact same thing last time. They make references to popular culture as if they don’t spend their spare time putting on masks and going to mansions to do Eyes Wide Shut–style stuff. And, look, maybe it works, because they’ve never stopped doing it.

Maybe we’re showing our ass here (we have one ass, collectively). Maybe newly minted treasurer Josh Frydenberg is making a reference too oblique for me to understand or for a Google search to help me with. But also, maybe, he said ‘Scoop Dogg’ twice on The Project tonight because he confused Snoop Dogg with Fatman Scoop.

What we know for certain: the man (our treasurer) definitely does say ‘Scoop Dogg’, twice. At the 1:53 mark, followed by a repetition of the same sentence at 1:55.

What we also know for certain: this government has a bizarre relationship with Fatman Scoop now after the PM’s office used Be Faithful for a weird social media video.

Conjecture: Josh Frydenberg’s brain only has space to remember the name of a single rapper and, in the interest of saving space, has smushed together ‘Snoop Dogg’ and ‘Fatman Scoop’ into one name.

Much more unlikely conjecture: Frydenberg was making reference to this apocryphal quote attributed to Snoop.

Sometimes you take a chance and sometimes it doesn’t work out.
