For a split-second, it makes sense. Frantic and unpredictable, sure, but somehow familiar: Heath Ledger’s Joker, just with longer hair. Aged. Wizened. Wiseau-d. Then he contorts his voice around the sing-song of “jingle bells, Batman smells,” and the illusion flakes off like cheap white face paint.
Tommy Wiseau features in a new audition reel for the role of the Joker in the upcoming DC Studios origin story film, donning the haunting get-up of Ledger’s legendary Dark Knight interpretation.
Whimpering and screaming through some of the film’s most recognisable lines, the auteur behind The Room gives the audition a red hot crack: as always, it’s impossible to tell when sincerity ends and hamminess begins, but The Nerdist still manages to capture… well, something.
Should he be cast as Batman’s most famous foil? Look, probably not.
