Tina Fey Says A Mean Girls Musical Is On The Cards

Tina Fey is in the process of adapting her hilarious and highly quotable movie screenplay for Mean Girls into a musical. The inspirational comedy writer and co-Queen of Award Show Banter confirmed that she is currently working on taking the Plastics to the stage.

Asked whether a Mean Girls musical was actually going to happen as she walked the Screen Actors Guild red carpet yesterday, Fey made our collective dreams come true by explaining:
“I’m trying to develop it actually with my husband who does all the music for 30 Rock. I think Paramount’s on board. Yeah”
Considering the movie’s original soundtrack featured excellent tunes from the likes of Peaches, Kelis and Blondie, here’s hoping Fey’s hubby Jeff Richmond will refer to the movie for inspiration. Further details regarding the project are yet to be confirmed – like whether the original star and noted rock bottom dweller Lindsay Lohan would be reprising her role as Cady.

Fey did joke that the role of Regina’s “cool” mum, Mrs George, (who was originally played by her SNL bestie Amy Poehler) should be played by none other than Madame Butterfly herself, Ms Mariah Carey, after proving her Mean Girls prowess during a recent on-screen spat with Idol co-host Nicki Minaj.
