The Teaser For JJ Abrams’ New HBO Series “Westworld” Is Dark & Weird AF

The sales pitch for this series must’ve been the easiest thing in the world.

What is it?
It’s a sci-fi series set in a futuristic western theme park staffed by lifelike android robots where things slowly unravel.
Who’s in charge of things?”
Jonathan Nolan co-created it. JJ Abrams is the Executive Producer.”
“I see, and who’s in the cast?”
Anthony Hopkins. Evan Rachel Wood. Ed Harris. James Marsden. Thaddie Newton.”
“Very interested. Anything else?”
“Yeah, it’s gonna be on HBO.”

The series – Westworld – is based on the excellent 1973 Michael Crichton film of the same name. If that cultural reference point is a little too deep into the well for you, the film was also largely the basis for the Itchy & Scratchy Land episode of The Simpsons.
The first teaser for the series has dropped, and does exactly that – teases.
But from these 30 mere seconds it looks dark and weird and gloomy as all hell. And with the official description of the series being “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin,” you can pretty much go right ahead and sign us up now.

Westworld is due to hit screens in 2016.
