The ‘Star Wars’ Episode VIII Director Fkn Finally Spilled Some Plot Deets

Guys, it is 2017 now. Do you know what that means?
IT MEANS WE GET A NEW MOTHERLICKIN’ ‘STAR WARS’ MOVIE THIS YEAR.
Rian Johnson is directing Episode VIII (8), and so far we know very little about it – apart from the devastating fact that Carrie Fisher had finished filming all of her scenes for it before her tragic passing last month, so General Leia Organa will reportedly be appearing (Oh god, I’m SO not ready. Hold me.)
Obviously the last thing we saw in ‘The Force Awakens‘ was Rey handing Luke his lightsaber on extremely beautiful island Ahch-to
But there’s rumours that that a significant portion of Ep. 8 will also be set there (training…?), and the film will also reportedly address why Luke went there in the first place, and what he plans to do next.
Johnson spoke to USA Today about the upcoming release of Ep. 8, saying that the major focus will be on Rey and Luke‘s relationship. From USA Today:

“I don’t want to skip ahead two years. I want to see the very next moment of what happens.”
How Rey and Luke relate to each other is the key relationship in Episode VIII, and Johnson says “a large part of the movie” will be spent addressing why Luke’s there and what he’ll do next.
Like Luke, Rey has been pulled into a bigger world by connecting with the Force, “but part of what’s she’s dealing with is the realisation that she has this power and this gift,” Johnson adds.

“She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”
Reportedly, there’s a good chance we will also learn if Rey and Luke are related in any way in the new film.
ONLY 338 DAYS TO GO, EVERYONE. In the mean time, please enjoy this gif of an extremely good doggo dressed as an AT-AT:
