Netflix’s ‘The Society’ Goes From Zero To ‘Lord Of The Flies’ Real Quick

The Society

To the tune of Billie Eilish‘s ‘bury a friend’, Netflix has debuted the trailer for their new young adult series ominously titled The Society.

The new show is being described as a modern take on William Golding‘s 1954 classic Lord of the Flies, where a group of teenagers mysteriously find themselves transported to a facsimile of their affluent New England Town. By the looks of it, no parents exist in this universe. Though their newfound freedom is initially a heap of fun, the town soon descends into chaos full of violence and murder. To survive, the teens must establish order and form alliances.

At the beginning of the trailer, a girl can be heard leaving a message for her mother on the phone.

“Where is everyone?” she asks. “It’s been nine days, we’re all alone. Some of us thought it would be fun, being in charge of ourselves but things got bad.”

Cue the robberies, cars on fire, guns, and murder.

“If you hear this, please come find us.”

The series stars our very own Natasha Liu Bordizzo who also starred in Netflix’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. She’s joined by Rachel Keller, Kathryn Newton, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jacques Colimon, Sean Berdy, Toby Wallace, Gideon Adlon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex MacNicoll, Jose Julian, Salena Qureshi, Jack Mulhern, and Grace Victoria Cox.

Chris Keyser, best known for creating the telly series Party of Five, is behind the show and 500 Days of Summer and Gifted director Chris Keyser directed.

All ten episodes of The Society are heading to Netflix, May 10.
