The Rock, Greatest Man Alive, Humbly Accepted His First Ever Razzie Award

Never let anyone tell that The Rock is anything less than a shining golden angel sent from heaven to warm the hearts of everyone.

Though the man born Dwayne Johnson was not at the Academy Awards this year, he didn’t leave the weekend empty handed.

The Golden Raspberry Awards handed out its annual shitlist of the year’s worst the night before the Oscars ceremony, and Johnson’s critically reviled Baywatch was not spared the cold kiss of the awards’ playful wrath.

While the film was up for five seperate Razzie Awards, the one it did pick up had to be created specially for it, with the Golden Raspberry organisers handing out the specially-created So Rotten You Loved It award to The Rock’s well-meaning but ultimately not-very-good flick.

Seldom do Hollywood stars physically accept their Razzie, but The Rock is The Rock, and thus we’ve got this incredibly fun, in-on-the-joke acceptance speech, which The Great One posted to his Instagram account yesterday.

Bless his heart, he’s the best.

Oscar Sunday, I’m super pumped, and very proud for my buddies who’ve been nominated tonight. Pulling for you guys to bring home the gold.

I’m also excited, because I was just informed that I too am bringing home the gold tonight. No, not an Oscar – maybe one day – but a Razzie.

Razzies are the annual awards given out to Hollywood’s worst movies. And I have officially won one, for Baywatch.

But here’s the cool thing: the movie was so bad that they actually had to create another category. I’m not kidding. The new category is A Movie So Rotten, You Eventually Fell In Love With It. I’m not kidding! Which means the shit sandwich you have been eating is so bad that you eventually started to like it.

Look, we made Baywatch with the best of intentions. It didn’t work out. But I humbly and graciously accept my Razzie, and I thank you critics, I thank you fans, and look… at the end of the day, ‘Movie So Rotten You Eventually Fell In Love With It’? That’s just the way love goes.

Go Baywatch. Thank you for my Razzie. Give it to me!

Give The Rock an Oscar. And if you can’t find a legitimate acting category for him to win, make one up.

He deserves it.
