The Original T-Rex From Jurassic Park Will Return In Jurassic World

There’s just over a month to go now before Jurassic World hits cinemas, and thus your giddy child-like excitement should be ramping up to prehistoric levels.

Along with all the trailers and the posters and the Chris Pratt singing lyrics to the theme songs and whathaveyou, we’re also starting to learn a thing or two about what the actual film is going to contain.
What we do know for certain is that it’s going to straight up ignore the events that took place in the pretty solid The Lost World and the decidedly crappy Jurassic Park III. Instead, the film will act as a direct sequel to the original blockbuster, Jurassic Park. The idea is based on the fact that the events in The Lost World and JPIII took place on a different island (Isla Sorna) as opposed to the events of both Jurassic Park and World (Isla Nublar) and thus those arcs can be placed aside.
So we know that World will take place 22 years after the disaster on Jurassic Park during its beta testing phase, where a new company has bought out the assets of InGen and turned the island’s blueprints into a function public attraction.
And the park facilities are not the only thing that’s going to be familiar to diehard fans of the original.
The original T-Rex will re-appear as one of the park’s main attractions. As in, the same animal. The chief dino antagonist of the first film obviously remained on the island, and was later re-captured when the park was taken over and refurbished for opening. She’s aged some 22 years in the time since, and will have the battle scars to prove it.
Director Colin Trevorrow spoke to Slashfilm, explaining how new technology will bring the old girl back onto screens.

“I mean, we took the original design and obviously, technology has changed. So, it’s going to move a little bit differently, but it’ll move differently because it’s older. And we’re giving her some scars and we’re tightening her skin. So, she has that feeling of, like, an older Burt Lancaster. And this movie is her Unforgiven.”

Hoooooooly shit. I mean, it’s just a bare comparison but even the mere MENTION of dinosaurs and westerns in the same breath…

More to that, Trevorrow began dropping hints about the dinosaurs that will be feature in the film, including one of his personal favourites who apparently gets a big featured scene.

“We got to build everyone from the ground up because technology has changed so much that everything is a rebuild. And I got to bring in dinosaurs that I’ve always thought deserved a big scene. There’s an Ankylosaurus in this movie; was a really big scene and that’s just a bad ass dinosaur. And there are others. There’s smaller appearances, some bigger appearances. You know, we have an underwater reptile. I’m sure you’ve heard about that. That thing is pretty cool. We have a new kind of flying dinosaur that no one’s ever seen before, you know, in addition to the Pteranodons that are really scary. And I didn’t want to just throw the kitchen sink at it. Each of these movies has done a good job at just very carefully, in a measured way, increasing the new dinosaurs that you see. But, there’s a lot of dinosaurs in the movie for sure.”

Jurassic World hits big screens everywhere from June 11th.
