Even Toby Wants ‘The Office’ To Have One More Ride & He’s The Worst

By now a revival of The Office seems more a case of “when” and not “if,” and should you require any extra evidence of that, even goddamned Toby Flenderson is now keen for the Dunder Mifflin crew to get back together. And he, as we all know, is the worst.

Paul Lieberstein, the man who not only filled the gloriously inept boots of Toby throughout the entire run of the series but also acted as the production’s showrunner from season five through eight, has given the vaunted reunion an HR department-approved tick in a new interview with The Daily Beast.

More to that, though, he seems to have a pretty good idea of how it should come about.

Unlike more recent revivals of much-loved properties like Will & Grace, Lieberstein sees any potential rehash of The Office as something more of a one-off, extra special event, noting that a full new season of the show might be a little bit too difficult to pull off from both a logistical and story point-of-view.

Instead, he reckons the best plan of attack is centring the reunion around one specific event.

I think a one-off special would be the way to go. Some event that brings everyone back together.

As for what that could be, the mind boggles: Dunder Mifflin finally closes its doors for good? Fire in the warehouse? Creed escapes jail and goes on some sort of rampage? The real Scranton Strangler reveals his or her (his, Toby) identity?

Realistically, as far as any reunion goes, you probably wouldn’t do much wrong with having Dwight take a few late season regulars (let’s say… ClarkErinPhyllis, and Angela) on a nationwide road trip chasing down new leads for the company, which brings them into contact with old faces who moved away.

Just as long as you keep Michael Scott and Toby the hell away from each other.

Or don’t.

Because, y’know… comedy.
