‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Director Finally Unpacks Biggest Fan Theory

Is ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’ a Halloween movie, or is it a Christmas movie? It’s a legitimate question that’s been hotly debated ever since the “children’s film” was released in 1993.
At the Colorado Telluride Horror Show film festival, a little girl got the chance to actually ask the director, Henry Selick. He answered succinctly, leaving nothing unclear:
“It’s a Halloween movie.”
OF COURSE IT FUCKING IS. OLD MATE JACK THE PUMPKIN KING WANTS TO BE PART OF CHRISTMAS-TOWN BUT HE FUCKS EVERYTHING UP AND SCARES EVERYONE AND IT’S SAD AND BLOODY TERRIFYING, NOT CHRISTMASSY AND HEARTWARMING. Damn, ya’ll.
