The New Batman Script’s Allegedly ‘A Mess’, Nobody Can Be F’kd Fixing It

Less Than Zero author-turned-lovable old crank Bret Easton Ellis has decided to make life difficult for the good people at Warner Bros, saying in an interview that he be believes that the script for their upcoming stand-alone Batman film is ‘a mess’, but that nobody at the studio can be bothered fixing it.
The film has been getting a fair bit of positive buzz so far – it’s a passion project for Ben Affleck, who wrote the script and is set to direct and star. Though not a lot has been said, it’s been hinted that the project is something of an antidote to the lugubrious Batman v Superman, with the bat facing off against a number of classic villains
Enter Bret Easton Ellis, who tried his hand at script-writing with 2013’s The Canyons, and is fond of holding forth on the current state of Hollywood. In a recent interview with The Ringer, the author claimed to have it on authority that the script is no good, but that nobody at a high level cares, as it will make a tonne of money anyway.
In his words:
“I was having dinner with a couple of executives who know other executives who are working on the [forthcoming] Batman movie, The Batman. And they were just telling me that there are serious problems with the script. And that the executives I was having dinner with were complaining about people who work on the Batman movie. And they just said they went to the studio and they said, ‘Look, the script is … Here’s 30 things that are wrong with it that we can fix.’ And [the executives] said, ‘We don’t care. We don’t really care. The amount of money we’re going to make globally, I mean 70 percent of our audience is not going to be seeing this in English. And it doesn’t really matter, these things that you’re bringing up about the flaws of the script.’ So I do think global concerns play a big part in how movies, and what movies, are being made, obviously.”

Rock ‘n roll. Deal with it.

Ellis doesn’t have any particular beef with DC movies. Hell, the dude actually mentioned Batman v Superman as one of his top picks of the year, which shows, at the very least, that he still has his sense of humour.

He admits right up-front that his source is literally a guy who heard it from another guy, so the whole thing should maybe be taken with a grain of salt, but it certainly has a plausible ring to it.
If his story’s true, though,Warner Bros still have a fair bit of time to reconsider fixing the ol’ script, as the stand-alone Affleck Batman film won’t officially go into production until 2017, with a likely 2018 or 2019 release date.
