‘The Mask’ Creator Is Gunning For A Female-Driven Reboot & He’s Already Picked Its Lead Star

Following the lead of glorious flicks like Ghostbusters (2016) and Ocean’s 8 (2018), the creator of Jim Carrey’s The Mask is keen to do a female-driven modern day rendition of the iconic ’90s flick.

“I’d like to see a really good physical comedian [in the role],” Dark Horse Comics founder Mike Richardson told Forbes in a recent interview, adding that he already knows which comedian he wants to cast but cannot spill the tea until he asks her first.

“I have one in mind, but I’m not gonna say her name,” he teased, adding that “we have to do a lot of convincing for this particular actor, but we’ll see.”

Richardson went on to explain that although both the 1994 film and its sequel starred blokes in the central roles, in the comic series, there have been multiple storylines that have been about ladies having their go with the mask.

“One of the great things about the Mask … is that anybody can get [it], so you can do a story about anyone and you could cast any comedian in the role,” Richardson shared.

The OG flick is one of Carrey’s most iconic roles and helped launch his career as well as that of co-star Cameron Diaz.

Meanwhile, apparently there was a 2005 sequel starring comedian Jamie Kennedy (I literally had no idea) called Son of the Mask but it was a critical and commercial flop.
