Casting directors have begun locking in talent for the remake of the popular 1989 Disney film about a mermaid who yearns to walk the Earth (now cue Ursula’s ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’).

While the title role of Ariel, the Little Mermaid has yet to be announced, a coupla supporting roles have been confirmed and we think you’ll be v. v. v. pleased.

Comedy qween Awkwafina has been cast as the hilarious seagull Scuttle, a faux expert of the human world who actually knows sweet fuck all despite spending more time on land than Ariel and her pals.

Joining the Crazy Rich Asians star is Jacob Tremblay, AKA the kid in Room, who will be playing Ariel’s BFF Flounder.

Meanwhile, last week it was revealed that Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy is reportedly in talks to play the key role of Ursula The Sea Witch.

Following the revelation, beloved singer Lizzo shared a video of her rendition of ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ while tizzed up in Ursula makeup, prompting her legion of online fans to petition for her to be cast in the role instead.

And as for the roles of Ariel and Prince Eric, well, those are yet to be announced but I’m just sitting here waiting for Lindsay Lohan to publicly throw her hat (or tail?) in the ring… for the millionth time.

Rob Marshall of Into The Woods is set to direct the film, featuring songs from the OG flick, as well as several new compositions by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
