The Great Gatsby Cast Touches Down In Australia

Your fifteen-year-old self better be prepared because Leonardo DiCaprio is in town and we know you spent a whole decade during the 90’s kissing a poster of him from TV Hits magazine. The world’s highest paid actor touched down at Sydney airport Monday morning and went straight to Fox Studios at Moore Park where filming will shortly commence for Baz Luhrmann’s $150 million adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Leo, who will play Jay Gatsby for no small fee of $20 million, was later spotted in the Eastern suburbs house where he will be living for the next four months. Before you get lost in a daydream about a low-key beach wedding and cottage in rural France, we must point out that Leo is a taken man and will be shortly joined by girlfriend Blake Lively. Damn.

Toby Maguire, who plays Spiderman, I mean, Nick Carraway, arrived last week and Carey Mulligan, cast as Daisy Buchanan, was spotted on Oxford St doing something mundane like drinking a coffee but still. Celebrities! They walk among us! Joel Edgerton will play Tom Buchanan and Isla Fisher will play his mistress, Myrtle.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel has undergone six film adaptations, the most famous being the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola version. Opinion is polarized over Luhrmann’s choice to make his version 3D but here’s hoping that it’s better than his last effort, Australia, which is 165 minutes of pure eye-gouging torture.
