SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 9.

WELL THEN. ‘The Battle of the Bastards‘ was a goddamn wild ride from start to finish.

Undoubtably one of the best moments in this absolute beast of an episode was Sansa Stark walking away as Ramsay Bolton‘s [Iwan Rheon] own dogs eat him alive… and smirking.

Sophie [Turner, who plays Sansa] doesn’t say very much, but I think it may be my favourite thing that she’s ever done on this show,” said executive producer D.B. Weiss.

“It’s such a strong moment for her because all her life she’s been affected by these men who have just done such terrible things to her,” said Sophie. “This is the first moment that you actually hear her say, ‘This won’t affect me and I’m stronger than that’. It’s my favourite scene.”

But it may also have solidified a pretty dark theory: that Sansa is pregnant with Ramsey’s child.

As far as Game of Thrones theories go, this one is pretty small – there’s no murky lineage, no prophecies, no poetic justice. It’s just the very real possibility that after Ramsey spent a large portion of last season raping Sansa, he might now be able to torment her from the grave with his child.

Fans first started to pick up on this possible plot twist earlier in the season, when Sansa described to Littlefinger how she continues to feel what he did to her inside her body. (Although she could simply be referring to the physical trauma of rape.)

But this episode further fanned the idea. At the very end, we see Sansa looking down at a bloodied and tied-up Ramsay, about to be eaten alive.

“You can’t kill me. I’m part of you now,” he says.

“Your words will disappear. Your house will disappear. Your name will disappear. All memory of you will disappear,” she says, taunting him with the worst possible fate given his already imminent death.

So who knows. Is she pregnant? Y’know, that whole ‘I’ll live on through my DNA‘ schtick that’s been part of the hero’s tale since the dawn of time? (NB: In Ramsey’s world, he’s the hero. Doesn’t mean he’s a good hero.)

Or is Ramsey the puppet master simply trying to one-up Sansa one last time, and take credit for turning her hard enough to murder?  This’ll be her first direct kill.

In an interview with EW before the scene was shot (but which only came out today), Rheon says the scene leaves her in an interesting place as a character.

“It’s horrible, and I think he probably has done some damage,” he said, shuddering. “He’s gotten inside her head.”

Who bloody knows. Nothing is off limits in George R. R. Martin‘s twisted design, but even if Sansa is pregnant, perhaps she’ll just roll with it; as Sophie says, this scene is essentially Sansa saying, “This won’t affect me”.
