James Packer and Mariah Carey are officially broken up, so we will never get to experience their absurdly lavish, Hello Kitty-themed wedding (because you know that Mariah would have put her foot down and insisted on that shit).
Thanks to some unscrupulous member of their staff, though, we at least get to take a look at the couple’s unsigned prenuptial agreement, and bask in the fact that it’s even crazier than we could have imagined.
The document, drawn up by Packer executive Robert Rankin and leaked to gossip monsters TMZ, shows that James was willing to pay Mariah a cool $6 million for every year of marriage, up to a total of $30 million in the event of a split:
“James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, $6 million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million … adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis [$151,385 per week].”
The agreement would also have given James the final say on when Mariah got to use the private jet:
“James shall provide the use of one private aircraft, of his selection, for Mariah’s personal use, or that of her children and nannies only when James, in his sole discretion, determines it is appropriate to do so.”
That seems … stingy? Or maybe it’s totally reasonable. I don’t know, I have no f’kn idea how the economics of private jets work.
As for gifts, James made special provision for anything given outside of an engagement, wedding, birthday or anniversary:
‘…no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over $250,000 will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating “This is my gift to you”.’
Certain elements were not yet agreed upon – for instance, there was a clause saying that James would agree to purchase “certain clothing” for Mariah, not to be used for business or performing, but a blank space was left for them to set a dollar amount.
Likewise, another section read that Packer would provide “credit card(s) to be issued for use by Mariah and her staff … the amount of expenses … shall not exceed US $___ per calendar month.”
TMZ also claim the existence of an email chain in which Packer angrily instructs his lawyers to complete the prenup so he can rush the wedding along. One email allegedly read:
“I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this email chain. The people who work for me … do as I say or fuck off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”
Mariah hasn’t commented, but for what it’s worth, she appears to be keeping things festive:
