Ten Has Axed Six Of Their Shows, Including Some Very Good Ones & Some Very Very Shit Ones

Network Ten has been absolutely fkn ruthless over the last year, as evidenced by their shock decision to shelve Bachelor In Paradise for 2021 after a bonkers season last year.

But while the spicy dating series is merely on hiatus until the time is right, a bunch of their other shows have just been permanently shit-canned, including a coupla game shows, an OG drama series, and a coupla beloved, long-running shows that we frothed over as kids.

Speaking to TV Tonight, Head of Programming Daniel Monaghan confirmed that WAG drama, Playing For Keeps “is not coming back.”

Olympia Valance and Madeleine West in Playing For Keeps

The smoking hot series starred Neighbours alum Olympia Valance, Madeleine West and Jackson Gallagher and ran on Ten for two seasons. A solid run considering the current climate, if ya ask me. But still… it’ll be sorely missed.

Next up is a show that will absolutely not be sorely missed – not by me, anyway – called Trial By Kyle, which featured shock jock Kyle Sandilands in a Judge Judy esque role.

“[Kyle] hates it,” Monaghan said. “He talks about it on the radio. It’s not coming back. Just ask him! I really liked it and I like Kyle, but it’s not returning.”

Celebrity Name Game, hosted by Grant Denyer, has also been given the flick, along with One Born Every Minute Australia.

But the ones that have really gotten me down is the cancellation of beloved, long-running series, Totally Wild and Scope, which you’ll remember watching after school back in the day.

Brisbane-based kids show Totally Wild ran for an epic 29 years and holy fuck, it’s literally older than me (just).

Its science-based sister show, Scope, has also been given the boot.

A spokesperson for Ten confirmed the devo news to TV Blackbox:

“Network 10 today informed staff that Totally Wild and Scope will no longer be produced, which will result in a reduction of roles.

“Network 10 remains committed to creating and producing local children’s content, but its strategy has evolved to include the development and production of more children’s drama programs.

“The Network 10 children’s department will remain an integral part of the business and will remain based in Brisbane.

“As a result of these shows no longer being produced, some on-air presenters and production staff will leave Network 10. The network would like to thank those people for their dedication and hard work.

“No further details are available at this stage.”

‘Tis a sad, sad day for television.
