Giddy Up, Taylor Swift Is In Talks To Perform At This Year’s Melbourne Cup

While they could have their pick of ex-Australian Idol or The Voice hopefuls to perform, the good people behind the Melbourne Cup have decided to aim significantly higher, with reports that they have approached Taylor Swift to perform this year.

Per reports in the Herald Sun, promoter Michael Gudinski has teamed up with the Victoria Racing Club to pitch Swift on the idea of the event. Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have also been approached, presumably as some kind of steamy package deal.

While “nothing is confirmed yet”, all three performers are said to be “interested” in the idea at this stage. Mendes will already be on tour in Australia at Melbourne Cup time, playing Sydney on November 2 and Brisbane on November 6, which leaves a big ol’ gap on November 5.

Whoever gets the gig will be playing two songs on the day. Last year, Sam Smith was the featured performer, so the bar is already pretty high for big names. That said, Victoria Racing Club have not yet made a comment on any of the three musical acts suggested for this year.

Taylor Swift is currently riding high on the success of her album Lover, and has not yet announced when or how she plans to tour the album, so if this gig works out, it could potentially be one of your only chances to catch her in 2019.
