The official teaser trailer for JoJo Rabbit has arrived, confirming director Taika Waititi decided to throw DVD copies of Moonrise Kingdom and Inglorious Basterds in a blender and scull the resulting slurry.
Oh, he also stars as Adolf Hitler, but a Beetlejuice-esque version of the genocidal Nazi leader. There’s a bit going on in this one, folks.
JoJo Rabbit, which features young Roman Griffin Davis in the title role, follows the travails of a German family during World War II. JoJo’s mother, played by Scarlett Johansson, eventually shelters a young Jewish girl from the horrors of the Holocaust. Hijinks ensue.
Speaking to Deadline earlier this year, Waititi said his version of the Third Reich’s leader is “like a 10 year-old kid’s version of Hitler,” adding “It would just be too weird to play the actual Hitler, and I don’t think people would enjoy the character as much.
“Because he was such a fucking cunt, and everyone knows that as well. I think people have got to relate to really enjoy the ride.”
