Taika Waititi Will Direct And Co-Write A New ‘Star Wars’ Movie & This * Is * The Way

Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi, the one and only, will direct and co-write a new Star Wars film. Taika Waititi who recently won Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. Taika Waititi who directed the last and arguably best episode of The Mandalorian season 1. Vampire, droid, Korg.

Joining Waititi on the screenplay is Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho).

It wasn’t too long ago that Waititi straight up denied he was making a Star Wars film when rumours first swirled that Disney had hit him up about it.

“Listen, what does ‘approached’ even mean?” he told ET at the time. “I’ve seen Star Wars, that’s about as far as it got.”

Naturally…

You gotta love him. You just gotta!

The latest announcement from a galaxy far, far away comes after the news Russian Doll‘s Leslye Headland is currently developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series.

Meanwhile, The Mandalorian‘s second season is now in post-production and Disney is working on two other new series: one based on Cassian Andor‘s life leading up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and another following the adventures of one Obi-Wan Kenobi. The latter will take place between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.

As for what you can watch right now, Disney+ just unleashed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on the streaming service. It joins the final season of The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian of course.
