‘Sydney Unplugged’ Accused of ‘Paris, Je’Taime’ Copyright Infringement

Tropfest founder John Polson’s paean to the city of Sydney, the terribly titled ‘Sydney Unplugged‘, has been accused of copyright infringement from the filmic franchising Frenchman best known for Paris, Je T’aime and New York, I Love You. The Turning: 1. Sydney Unplugged: 0.

Emmanuel Benbihy has taken the issue to court (allez à le palais de justice! Oui oui!) and received an order of seizure, winning the rights to obtaining documents related to the Polson’s project, which is scheduled for production later this year in time for a 2013 release.

Benhiby released a press release stating the following: “On Monday, the Marseille Court of Justice issued a court order for the Arclight seizure based on an extensive list of elements that we provided showing the source of this project and the confusion it already created. The seizure was carried by an official bailiff holding the original seizure order. I can’t believe that people with such film experience have decided to illustrate the image of a wonderful city with so little concern for their actions and such an unethical manner. They will be embarrassing a lot of people including Australian film institutions and sponsors.”

A couple of those people may include (honorary Australian via Naomi Watts) Liev Schreiber alongside some of Australia’s most celebrated cineastes: Alex Proyas, David Michod, Ivan Sen, John Curran, Kieran Darcy-Smith, Rachel Ward, Ray Lawrence, Russell Crowe, Anthony LaPaglia and Toni Collette.

Benhiby’s franchise has also shared the love with Shanghai (I Love You), Rio (Eu the Amo), Berlin (I Love You) and Jerusalem (I Love You). One love, you guys. Just not for Sydney.
