Studio Ghibli Announce First Ever TV Series ‘Ronia The Robber’s Daughter’

World-renowned animators Studio Ghibli have revealed their first-ever television series, an adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s children’s fantasy novel Ronia the Robber’s Daughter.

The news has been translated into English via a Facebook fan page (via NHK).

“The
story is of a little girl named Ronja [sic], the daughter of a
colourful robber chieftain who lives in a castle high on a rock in a dark
pine forest. She gets to know the creatures of the forest, meets
another kid like herself, and questions her father’s life of robbery.”

As you can imagine, we’re all feeling a bit like this…

The
series will be directed by Goro Miyazaki who was behind both Tales from
Earthsea
and From Up On Poppy Hill. Goro is the son of Hayao Miyazaki,
the legendary director who is synonymous with the Studio Ghibli name.
Hayao recently announced his retirement from directing and broke
millions of hearts around the world. The Simpsons even did a tribute to
him.

Ronia the Robber’s Daughter will premiere in Japan on August 31st.
