Stephen Colbert’s ‘Star Wars IX’ Trailer Is A Hateful Fanboy’s Nightmare

Stephen Colbert of The Late Show released a very special trailer earlier today made to enrage a very specific type of Star Wars fan.

Earlier this week, Rose Tico actor Kelly Marie Tran deleted all her posts on Instagram. Though the actor hasn’t confirmed the reason why, it appears to be connected to the hordes of Star Wars fans continually spewing out racist, sexist, and downright horrible comments across Tran’s social media. Not to mention the targeted harassment on certain posts.

Tran, who only made her Instagram in the lead-up to The Last Jedi’s release used her platform to spread positivity and love. Her exit from Instagram was followed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill tweeting their support for Tran… a real person and not her fictional character from a galaxy far, far away.

Johnson tweeted, “a few unhealthy people can cast a big shadow on the wall, but over the past four years I’ve met lots of real fellow SW fans. We like and dislike stuff but we do it with humour, love, and respect. We’re the VAST majority.” 

Johnson was also subjected to a load of hate from Star Wars fans and was forced to disable the comments on his Instagram after people started hurling harassment on an Instagram post of a child playing with Rey and Kylo figurines.

The director has recently changed his cover photo on Twitter to an animated drawing of Rose while Hamill pinned a picture of himself and Tran to the top of his Twitter feed:

As you will have probably heard, The Last Jedi copped a lot of criticism for how far it veered from the lore. The addition of numerous female characters also pissed off certain ‘fans’.

Before the trailer aired on TV, Colbert said:

“May I remind you, Kelly Marie Tran is the first lead woman in a Star Wars movie that is not white”.

So with all of this in mind, Colbert made a trailer for Episode IX:

Plus, the lady Ghostbusters are here for some reason, the new female Doctor Who, and this girl wearing a Rick and Morty t-shirt but it’s like, ‘Does she even really watch the show?’ and we’ve got two words for you – Woke Porgs (Black Lives Matter sign).

Also Darth Maul is now an intersectional feminist and Chewbacca was a woman this whole time, “I’m ovulating”.
