Start Staring At The Sailboat, Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats” Sequel Has A Name

It’s kinda hard to keep track of what Kevin Smith is or isn’t doing. There’s the supposed retirement of the View Askewniverse, then the forgetting that that ever happened, then the hockey movie that got turned into two hockey movies, then the film with his kid and Johnny Depp’s kid as leads, then the comic book store reality series and the podcasts and the Twittering and the comic-cons and the appearances on late night Comedy Central quiz panel shows and just about everything else in between.

And if that’s not exhausting enough as is, there’s this.
The long-awaited sequel to Smith’s early and much beloved work Mallrats is moving slowly through the production phases, with Smith taking to Facebook to share the good news that the first draft of the script is officially in the can.
In the process, Smith revealed the title of the sequel – Mallbrats.

IT’S MALL OR NOTHING!20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends, new jokes and a bloody battle with Stan Lee! This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here… #MallBrats

At last! A film with a Stan Lee cameo! Ask and you shall receive, movie going friends.

Flippancy aside, Smith’s message also includes a little tribute to James Jacks, a producer who who worked on Mallrats (along with a swathe of critically acclaimed fare like Dazed & Confused, Raising Arizona, Tombstone, and Intolerable Cruelty) who passed away in 2014.
Shooting on Mallbrats is scheduled to begin next year, and will see most of the original cast return, including Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Michael Rooker, Stan Lee, and Shannen Doherty.
