Your favourite underwater weirdo, SpongeBob SquarePants, is getting a prequel series, with Nickelodeon announcing that it’ll be set during his time at summer camp when he was 10 years old.

The 13 episode series is tentatively titled, Kamp Koral, and will begin production this month. According to the official description, “SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.”

Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller, who have worked on the show for upwards of 10 years, will serve as co-executive producers on the new series.

“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” EVP of Animation Production and Development, Ramsey Naito, said in a release.

The SpongeBob series turns 20 this year, which, frankly, makes me feel old as fuck. To celebrate, Nickelodeon is hosting an event called the “Best Year Ever,” which will include a one-hour special called SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout, airing on July 12, as well as other spin-offs. The Kamp Koral spin-off will be included in this at some point, with the whole event set to close with The SpongeBob Movie: It’s A Wonderful Sponge, airing on May 22, 2020.

There’s a lot of SpongeBob coming folks.
