‘South Park’ Gets Renewed Forever (Until 2016)

South Park has been renewed for another five seasons by cable network Comedy Central, the channel that broadcast the debut episode “Cartman Gets An Anal Probe” back in 1997. Yesterday the show’s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had their contracts extended until 2016 which will take the series to its 20th season.

From a premise of four grade-school boys who like swear words and fart jokes has emerged an amazing canon of satire. And, unlike some predecessors (like The Simpsons and Family Guy) – the show has gotten better with age. With no ideology too precious and no topic off limits, the trick to the show’s longevity has come down to its insanely on-point satire and the writers’ yardstick for taste which, as Stone once explained, is: “I think you can do anything as long as you make it funny.”
