‘Sorry To Bother You’ Will Finally Come Out In Australia Later This Year

I don’t pretend to understand the ins and outs of film distribution. I don’t even really want to know. I choose to believe that we get some movies late or not at all because films are still transported as 35mm film stock in several very heavy metal containers that are shipped straight from Hollywood to Australia on steam-powered ships that take a few months to complete the voyage. I know for a fact that this is not the case, but at least it makes me feel better.

Like with a lot of movies that I would like to see, Australia was snubbed for a full release of Boots Riley‘s dark comedy / political allegory Sorry To Bother You, but it looks like that is about to change.

Sorry to Bother You follows black telemarketer Cassius “Cash” Green as he finds success in an alternate reality Oakland by using his ‘white voice’ to make sales. The movie gets way, way weirder than that description lets on but, hey, we both know you don’t want that surprise ruined.

The movie stars Lakeith Stanfield, Armie Hammer, Tessa Thompson, Terry Crews, and Omari Hardwick, and features the voice acting talents of David Cross, Lily James, and Patton Oswalt.

Riley tweeted this afternoon that an unnamed “we” (presumably the people in charge of this sort of thing) is sorting out a proper release here in beautiful sunny Australia, although with no specific time frame available other than “later this year“.

So I guess hold off getting it some other way if you’re willing to wait to see it in the cinemas (which you should).
