Sons of Anarchy actor and hunk-o-spunk Charlie Hunnam has been spotted in Melbourne with former Comanchero bikie Amad ‘Jay’ Malkoun.

Hunnam and a group of friends met up for dinner last weekend at Vietnamese restaurant The George on Collins. It also looks like the same group went out for dinner at Chin Chin’s last night too (just before us Victorians plunged into a seven-day lockdown).

The Sons of Anarchy star is down in Naarm to film an upcoming Apple TV+ series, Shantaram. The series is based on a novel of the same name by Gregory David Roberts, where a convicted bank robber and heroin addict (played by Charlie Hunnam) escapes from Pentridge Prison and flees to India.

The story is based on the author’s actual life, as he actually escaped Pentridge Prison in 1980 and fled to India for ten years. Roberts was finally caught after he tried to smuggle himself into Frankfurt, Germany. He was then extradited to Australia where he served six years (two of which were served in solitary confinement).

During his second stay in prison, Roberts began writing Shantaram. However, the manuscript was apparently destroyed twice by prison wardens before he finally finished it when he got out of the slammer for good.

Pentridge Prison is where Roberts became friends with bikie, Malkoun and explains why he’s been hanging out with Hunnam. Malkoun served a ten year stint in Pentridge for Heroin trafficking.

The other three pictured in the top photo are former kickboxing champion Dave Hedgecock and his wife Leanne Webb, as well as Jay Malkoun’s brother Steve.

When in Melbourne, I guess.
