So Now “Bob’s Burgers” Writers Are Working On That Female “21 Jump Street” Spinoff

OK. Stay with us on this one.

So a little while ago there was word that a pair of writers from Broad City – Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs (who plays fitness instructor Trey on the show) – had successfully pitched their way into working on a female-led spinoff of the 21 Jump Street franchise that will sit within the Jonah Hill/Channing Tatum films’ universe; a real thing that actually exists nowadays.
Today there’s word that another pair of writers from an equally beloved show have also been picked up to write a script for the project.
Bob’s Burgers writing duo and actual sisters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux have been tapped by Sony to produce a second, separate script for the film – the second major female-centric spinoff that Sony is producing, after the Paul Feig-helmed Ghostbusters reboot starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.
The story goes that the Molyneux sisters pitched their idea for the project to Sony, and Sony liked what they heard. So they brought the pair on board to produce another script, different to the one Aniello and Downs are producing, with the project to move forward on a dual-track development.
This means that the script that ends up being shot will likely be the spine of one, with some gags and concepts from the other Frankensteined into it to create one cohesive, and probably absolutely piss funny story.
The project is one of three currently in various stages of development for the 21 Jump Street Universe, alongside the completion of the original Hill/Tatum trilogy in 23 Jump Street, and the long talked about and positively batshit crazy sounding 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover film.
This is the kind of ridiculous shit you can justify when your first two movies unexpectedly make money hand over fist, you see.
And if the name Wendy Molyneux sounds familiar at the moment, it’s because she’s also the Bob’s Burgers writer who wanted to raise $10,000 for charity with the promise that she would force herself to go see the Entourage movie despite absolutely loathing the series. She raised $30,000, so now she’s going to see it four times.
Praying 4 u, Wendy.
