A ‘Simpsons’ Writer Shared Scenes Cut From Iconic Ep ‘Who Shot Mr Burns?’

Twitter is an awful place that collates the insane ramblings of the truly boring and unimportant and amplifies them far beyond what incredibly meagre worth they should ordinarily carry. Fortunately, it’s also a neat and easily accessible home for notable former Simpsons writers, all of whom are observing the show’s prolonged twilight by emptying their desk drawers.

Josh Weinstein, who along with Bill Oakley presided over inarguably the show’s greatest season (8), gifted nerds across the globe with yet another peak at what might have been thanks to a scene in a Simpsons script that was sadly cut.

Weinstein’s opus as a writer for the show was the instantly-iconic Who Shot Mr. Burns? cliffhanger that, at the time, was such a closely guarded secret that the show used misdirection to throw media and fans off the trail of the real outcome.

Weinstein shared a scene cut from the script that featured Homer on the lam after being falsely accused of shooting CM Burns, using all his cunning wile to escape the clutches of Springfield’s fleet of police dogs.

Also cut from the script, an extremely brief appearance from Milhouse who apparently managed to get himself utterly trapped inside a model globe.

Would watch an excruciatingly extended sequence of Skinner and Willie trying to saw a school globe off Milhouse’s head, to be perfectly honest.

In an unintended further little bit of information, Bob’s Burgers co-developer Jim Dauterive pointed out a fact that will surely appease the formatting nerds among you. As it turns out, The Simpsons legacy and impact on other animated series extends way beyond simply what wound up being put on screen.

The Simpsons. Is there anything it can’t do?
