It seems like The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson had some kind of inkling that we all wanted to jump Kylo Ren’s angsty bones, because he went and gave us a shirtless Kylo Ren scene. The absolute bloody madman!

The presence of shirtless Kylo Ren, with his granddad pants hoisted damn near to his nipples, had the entire fandom shook. Even random dudes who accidentally texted Lin-Manuel Miranda were bloody on it.

While it would appear that Disney has simply learnt – after years of child-friendly films – that ‘sex sells’, there’s apparently a greater reason for this flashing of darkside nipples. And it comes to us from the sound supervisor, of all people. His name is Ren Klyce (a very Star Wars name, if you ask me), and here’s what he said to the Huffington Post:
“The way in which [director Rian Johnson] decided to create the Force connection [between Rey and Kylo Ren] by just simply doing vertical cuts without using any CG … it’s pure simplicity in terms of filmmaking with visual cuts. We cut to her side; we cut to Kylo Ren; we cut to her; and back and forth. That was important to establish what she was actually seeing. Was she hearing his voice or seeing his face or just his eyes? And so that [shirtless scene] is to inform the audience, ‘Oh, she can see his body.’”
She uh, sure can.
All we’re saying is, J.J. Abrams – who’s back on board to direct the third and final in this trilogy – better keep the good times rolling.
