Today Robert Rodriguez has announced that Sharkboy and Lavagirl will be receiving a 2021 sequel on Netflix called We Can Be Heroes, but new images have shown that Taylor Lautner will not be appearing in the film… and his replacement is a stuntman… who gets no speaking lines at all. Naturally, the internet is pissed.
Yep, today some new screenshots of the January 2021 Netflix film arrived, and the film features the talents of Pedro Pascal and Priyanka Chopra, with Taylor Dooley, who played Lavagirl in the original film, appearing again as the main character, and looking quite unaged from the 2005 classic.
I mean look how GOOD she looks. And look how BAD Sharkboy looks. They killed my boy.
Apparently, Taylor Lautner will not appear in the film at all, and will be replaced by stuntman J.J. Dashnaw. Although he may look like a hot replacement, “the only speaking role is for Lavagirl,” according to Rodriguez.
Take a look at some official Netlfix pics of the film, posted by Rodriguez himself on Twitter. Looks like the style will stay true to the classic weird and artsy qualities of the original.
Of course, the internet has already gone ahead and made some ridiculous memes about how Taylor Lautner has been replaced by a voiceless stuntman, and they’re all comedy gold.
