Marvel Unleashed The Teaser For Shang-Chi, Proving Simu Liu Is The Hottest Hero Of The Bunch

Simu Liu, Shang-Chi

After many, many months of waiting, Marvel has finally unleashed the teaser trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This is the first time we’re seeing Simu Liu in the titular role as Marvel’s first Asian superhero, and as someone who has watched the bloke for years on Kim’s Convenience, I’m proud as punch.

Simu Liu, handsome as ever, stars as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation. OooOooOooOoo.

The film also stars Tony Leung (2046) as Wenwu and Awkwafina (Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens) as Shang-Chi’s good mate Katy.

Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians) also co-stars as Jiang Nan, alongside Fala Chen (Steps), Meng’er Zhang (Ice Fantasy), Florian Munteanu (Creed II), and comedian Ronny Chieng (!!!). Look at him go.

Marvel released the trailer on Simu Liu’s birthday (April 19), which is just a tad cute.

Well, well, WELL. Looks promising!

The song, though? Is that a new one from Jackson Wang? I think it might be.

Shang-Chi is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who has the titles Just Mercy and The Glass Castle to his name.

The film is slated for release September 3, 2021.

Fun fact: Shang-Chi was filmed in Sydney in late 2019 and early 2020, with Simu swanning around town between takes. He also went snorkelling with his family up at the Great Barrier Reef.

Love a solid family photo.

While we wait for September to come around, I absolutely recommend giving Kim’s Convenience a burl on Netflix. While the series was recently cut short – I don’t want to talk about it – that doesn’t change the fact that it is a very, very good and hilarious series about a Korean-Canadian family.

You can find the first four seasons on Netflix now.

Honestly, none of the trailers do the series justice, but this is pretty good.

Yes, Appa (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) did star in The Mandalorian season 2 as an X-wing fighter pilot. That’s probably where you recognise him from.
