The First Shadow & Bone Trailer Is Here & It Is 14/10 Your Next Big Thirsty, Fantasy Binge

Shadow And Bone

Netflix has unleashed the first full trailer for its highly-anticipated series Shadow And Bone, the adaptation of the aggressively popular YA books by author Leigh Bardugo. This has been a long time coming, pals. Fans of the book have been waiting for the Netflix series since it was first announced back in January 2019.

Netflix’s Shadow And Bone tells the story of lowly mapmaker Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) in a war-torn world, who discovers she can wield an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free from war.

With the threat of the Shadow Fold – a swatch of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters – Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha.

But Alina learns that allies and enemies can be one and the same. There are many dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals (the Crows!!!), and it will take more than magic to survive.

The extremely handsome Ben Barnes stars as General Kirigan in the series, otherwise known as the Darkling.

For fans of the Grishaverse, expect Shadow And Bone to be different to what you’ve read. Netflix has basically combined the Shadow And Bone trilogy with the Six Of Crows duology, so it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out.

On a positive note though, we get to see the Crows, otherwise known as the ruthless Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), the Wraith Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman), and sharpshooter Jesper Young (Kit Young).

My one true loves, heartrender Nina Zenik (Danielle Galligan) and Drüskelle Matthias Helvar (Calahan Skogman) are also in the series. You can catch them both in the trailer for like a second, towards the end.

The series comes from showrunner Eric Heisserer, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the film Arrival. He also has Bird Box and Hours to his name.

Shadow And Bone will finally premiere on Netflix, April 23.

The books are such a fun read, by the way. I only intended on reading the first book… and now I’m about to order my seventh Bardugo book based in the Grishaverse, which only came out yesterday! They’re just THAT good.
