Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg Adapting ‘Preacher’ Comic Book Into AMC Drama

Seth Rogan and partner in crime Evan Goldberg, the minds behind Superbad and This Is The End, will write and executive produce the new TV series Preacher.

Based on the controversial 1990 comic book series, Preacher is the story of Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith and learns that God has left Heaven and abandoned his responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty.

Accompanying him on this journey are his former girlfriend and a friendly neighbourhood vampire who’d rather have a pint of beer than a pint of blood. Trying to stop him is an immortal killing machine named the Saint of Killers.

So it’s pretty much as un-Superbad as it gets. Unless they want to write in a couple of wisecracking, beer drinking cops who like to spout the benefits of spin class.

The show will be developed by Sony Picture Television and AMC, who were behind The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, so it will have a great home. Sam Catlin, who served as a producer and writer on Breaking Bad, will act as the showrunner/producer.

So far, there are no plans for Rogen to have an onscreen presence, however he and Goldberg added in a statement:

“We’ve tried for seven years to work on ‘Preacher’ and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us … It is our favourite comic of all time and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!”
