But in her freshly unveiled Elle magazine cover, the singer breaks her silence, as evidenced by the one and only coverline.

In the interview, the 26-year-old explains why she did not publicly address the incident when it first occurred two months ago.

“All I’m saying is, I reached out personally,” she told the magazine. “I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I…I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So…it’s…that’s what I’ll say.”

The pair met on Barney and Friends in the early 2000s then both went on to become popular Disney Channel stars then cemented themselves as singers.

At the time of Demi’s apparent overdose, insiders told PEOPLE that Sel is understandably heartbroken over what happened.

“I’m sure she’s very upset,” a source said at the time. “They’ve been friends since they were kids and have always been there for each other whether they’ve been close or not.”

Adding, “Demi reached out when Selena had her kidney transplant. They will always care a lot for each other and Selena will be there for her friend.”

As fans were left wondering why Gomez had yet to comment on the matter publicly, she was spotted out with friends wearing a top with the words ‘KEEP THE FAITH’ on the back, which fans interpreted as a symbolic gesture to her friend.

Lovato has reportedly begun her recovery at a rehab facility in Chicago.

“She’s in the midst of recovery,” a source close to Demi told PEOPLE. “It’s going to be a long road, and Demi knows that. Emotionally, it hasn’t been easy, but she’s doing okay.”
