‘Secret Recordings’ Revealed in Alleged Gold Coast Tinder Murder

On August 15 of this year, Gold Coast man Gable Tostee was arrested for the murder of New Zealand tourist Warriena Wright, who fell from the balcony of his 14th floor Surfers Paradise apartment following a Tinder date.

Tostee’s bail hearing will take place on Monday, and The Daily Mail report that a recent police affidavit contains disturbing details about the case, including allegations that the accused taunted and “choked” Wright, and called his lawyer less than a minute after her fall.
It is alleged that the 28-year-old Tostee made secret recordings of visitors to his apartment and boasted about them online. A mobile phone discovered in his father’s car allegedly contains a three-and-a-half hour audio recording made on the early hours of August 8
According to police, a man and a woman can be heard “socialising” on the recording. At one point, a male voice can be heard saying “I should have never given you so much to drink. I thought that we were going to have fun?”.
When a “struggle” later breaks out, the man can be heard telling the woman “you are lucky I haven’t chucked you off my balcony you goddamn psycho little bitch,” and threatening to evict her from the apartment without her belongings.
Police say that soon after, the woman in the recordings can be heard to struggle for breath, as if her airway is restricted, while the male voice says “let go, let go of it.” He later taunts her and tells her their whole exchange is being recorded.
At around 2.19, is is alleged that the woman begins screaming “no, no, no” to the sound of a sliding door being opened. The woman then pleads with the man to let her go home, to which the man responds “I would, but you have been a bad girl.”
The affidavit says that shortly after this, a sliding door can be heard closing, and around 26 seconds after this, “the sound of a fading scream can be heard.” It was previously alleged that Wright fell as she tried to climb to a neighbouring balcony to escape Tostee.
Police allege that, shortly after the fall, the man can he heard making an unanswered call to his lawyer, before searching frantically for his keys and ringing a family member and saying “there are cops all around my apartment. I am fucked.”
Tostee plans to apply for bail on Monday, but the Telegraph report that police oppose this, saying that he has a “blatant disregard for human life.”
