Scorcese And De Niro Might Re-Make Taxi Driver

It might be a rumour and it might just be some obsessed film-geek blogger letting loose www-style… but can you imagine if Robert de Niro and Martin Scorcese actually did go ahead and re-make “Taxi Driver”?

(Cut to the general collective scampering to the bathroom to do the ‘Huh? You talkin to me?’ bit in the mirror.)

Now that I’ve re-holstered my revolver (finger), suck on this:
According to “reports” from the Berlin Film Festival, Scorsese and de Niro are planning to re-make the multi-Academy Award winning 1976 film – considered one of the most disturbing pieces of modern cinema and featuring one of films’ most iconic characters, deranged cabbie Travis Bickle – in the not too distant future.

We all know that when Bob de Niro and Marty Scorsese get together sweet cinematic love is made. The last time they collaborated was in 1995 for “Casino” and since then Bobby hasn’t done much besides bad slapstick rom-coms with Ben Stiller. He’s well overdue for a dramatic role with substance – and guns.

Scorsese has been at the Berlin Film Festival to support his latest movie “Shutter Island”, after which he told the press: “Bob De Niro and I are talking about something that has to do with that world. There’s no doubt about that. We’re working on something like that, but it’s from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff.”

Who needs to run around when you work as a Taxi Driver? (Cut to me scampering back to the bathroom for a Travis Bickle reprise.)
