Since images surfaced of Sarah Jessica Parker donning Halston last year, the internet has been abuzz of a potential partnership between the Sex And The City star and the once iconic brand. Speculations centered around an ambassador-type role but according to E Online “Parker may actually land some sort of consulting gig with Halston. Titles being bantered about include creative director and design director.”
In recent years the celebrity as Creative Director has spawned Lindsay Lohan’s disastrous tenure at Ungaro, Lady Gaga’s newly announced Polaroid partnership and now this. The benefits are obvious – celebrities bring in a dedicated audience, the ability to drum up media coverage and contacts but as Lohan proved they can also damage a brand’s integrity.
But movie stars and pop singers aren’t the only celebrities brands will enlist for consultancy roles. According to The Daily Telegraph former British Prime Minster Tony Blair is close to finalizing a deal with the richest man in France, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.
A source close to Blair says: “Mr. Blair won’t be joining the board but he will be acting in an advisory role, working very closely with Mr Arnault. In particular, his job is likely to involve attracting new clients.” Blair who is also a close friend of Arnault will be paid a six figure salary for his part time consultancy role.
