Samson and Delilah Win at Cannes

“Samson And Delilah” scored full marks with Australia’s “good film barometer” Margaret and David, earning five stars apiece and prompting the oft-stoic David to gush “it concludes with such optimism, I think it really soars and I think every Australian should see this film.”

On the world stage the reaction has been much the same with “Samson and Delilah” winning the Camera d’Or first film prize at the Cannes Film Festival and proving that the early domestic praise was far from biased hyperbole. The Cannes jury announced the film’s win as exuberantly as David delivered his critique saying: ‘the best love film we’ve seen for many a year, Samson and Delilah.’

Indigenous Director Warwick Thornton accepted the award saying: ‘Thank you for believing in our first born baby…I don’t know what to say. Viva Cannes, viva le cinema.’

Finally proof that Australian film is less shit than what Danny Deckchair would have outsiders believe. And isn’t it about bloody time.
