For lovers of aching hearts, Sally Rooney is releasing a new book later this year. You have about eight months to emotionally prepare for it.
Overnight, publisher Farrar, Straus & Giroux announced it will release Rooney’s new novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You, come September.
The novel follows four young people in Ireland as they navigate love, friendship, and sex.

“Alice, Felix, Eileen, and Simon are still young – but life is catching up with them. They desire each other, they delude each other, they get together, they break apart. They have sex, they worry about sex, they worry about their friendships and the world they live in.
“Are they standing in the last lighted room before the darkness, bearing witness to something? Will they find a way to believe in a beautiful world?”
Sounds like classic Sally Rooney!
Considering Connell and Marianne made me want to eat my own fist, I assume Alice, Felix, Eileen, and Simon will have the same effect. I can’t wait to read it.
Rooney released her debut novel, Conversation with Friends, in 2017. It was followed by Normal People in 2018, which was later adapted into a critically acclaimed TV series starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Paul Mescal, and a chain necklace.
Mescal’s performance in the series earned him an Emmy nomination at last year’s virtual awards ceremony.
The series will consist of 12 half-hour episodes, with the creative team behind Normal People returning to helm the series.
Alice Birch, who adapted Normal People for television, will serve as lead writer. Lenny Abrahamson will also return as lead director and Rooney will serve as an executive producer.
Hulu has yet to announce a release date for the series, but we’ll keep you updated. Hopefully Stan will get its hands on the Aussie streaming rights again.
Beautiful World, Where Are You is slated for release September 7, 2021. You can find Rooney’s other novels wherever you shop for books.
Normal People, the TV series, is streaming now on Stan.
