Sacha Baron Cohen really is a slave to his craft. The actor arrived in Australia in character as his The Dictator alter ego General Aladeen surrounded by a harem of virgins in uniform yesterday. That’s actual virgins (not to be confused with the airport’s other Virgins in uniform who work for Richard Branson).

Since arriving, the General has made some remarkable comments that make Ricky Gervais’s Golden Globes monologue sound like Hallmark sentiments – e.g. suggesting Julia Gillard should get a sex change. To become a woman.

The Dictator opens in Australian cinemas on May 16 and tells the heroic story of a dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.

The screenplay is loosely based on a romance novel that was anonymously published in 2000 and according to the Daily Mail “The CIA believes it was written by ghost-writers with the direct influence of [Saddam] Hussein and the simple plot is laden with hidden meanings.” LOL.
