Ryan Gosling Explains His Adorable Giggling During The Great Oscars Snafu

Blessedly perfect human Ryan Gosling (do not @-me on this, he bloody well is) has at last explained why he was giggling like a school kid during the giant Oscars kerfuffle of 2017.

As is now scrawled into the great stone tablet recording of ‘huge ginormous fuck-ups in history’ (I imagine it’s at Pompeii), ‘La La Land‘ was accidentally awarded the Best Picture Oscar over the real winner, ‘Moonlight‘.

Of course, by the time the mistake was realised, the entire ‘La La Land’ crew were already up on stage and the producers were getting in to their acceptance speeches. So when producer Fred Berger uttered those infamous words – “we didn’t win, by the way” – it was some prime time viewing for shocked faces everywhere.

Except for old Gosling in the lower right-hand corner there, who was trying real hard not to smile.

“What really was happening as I was watching — it was surreal anyway — I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd, and guys were coming on with headsets, and I felt like someone had been hurt,” he said at the Adobe Summit, which sounds offensively dull but managed to score Ryan Gosling, so I guess it can’t be that bad.

“I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard, ‘Oh ‘Moonlight’ won,’ and I was so relieved that I started laughing.”

And he was just as stoked as you were that ‘Moonlight’ was the real winner.

“But truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won, I know the director [Barry Jenkins],” he said. “I’ve worked with them before. It’s such a ground breaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognised.”
