Ryan Adams Apologises For His Gross Tweets About Ex-Wife Mandy Moore

Indie rock guy Ryan Adams has apologised after making a series of generally fairly thoughtless Tweets about his ex-wife, singer and actress Mandy Moore, admitting he was out of line when he joked about their relationship.

The trouble all started when Moore, who now stars on the series This Is Us, gave an interview to Glamour, where she was asked about her marriage to the singer. Thinking back on their divorce, she said:

“I don’t feel guilty for it. I don’t fault myself for it. When people said, ‘I’m sorry,’ I was like, ‘No. Sorry would have been had I stayed in a very unhealthy situation.’ I didn’t. I found my way out. And when I did, things opened back up again.”

Mandy Moore also said that her marriage to Adams was “not the smartest decision” and that she “didn’t pick the right person”, which was enough for him to respond in a series of fairly pointed Tweets. In one, since deleted, he said he was too high to remember marrying her:

“When someone told me we got married I thought they were joking. Then I realized how many painkillers I was taking. Honestly there weren’t enough to numb the shock. Gollygooops.”

In another he criticised her taste in music and movies, and had a go at her for not liking Blade Runner or The Melvins:

Overnight, however, the singer thought better of himself, and made another tweet apologising for his remarks. “I was trying to be funny,” he said, “[but] it isn’t classy or okay to lessen what it was. I am happy for everyone and doing my best.”

Mandy Moore is now in a relationship with Taylor Goldsmith of the band Dawes.
