Russell Peters Calls New ‘Daily Show’ Host Trevor Noah A Joke Thief

Trevor Noah, the new host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, really can’t catch a break.
Last month, when the South African comic was announced as Jon Stewart‘s replacement, the internet began dredging up examples of sexist, homophobic and generally pretty questionable jokes from his Twitter feed.
Today, Noah is facing further criticism, but this time, it’s from a fellow comedian – that’s assuming that Russell Peters qualifies as a comedian, a fact that could also be considered questionable.
During an interview with Channel News Asia, Peters was asked for his take on the new Daily Show host – not taking the time to mince any words, he responded that he believes Noah to be a joke thief.
When pressed on the subject, Peters responded “he’s stolen material from David Kau, he’s stolen material from myself [sic], but whatever, that’s his gig now, and congratulations!”
He didn’t provide any examples of Noah’s alleged thefts, but he did compare one comedian taking another’s jokes with taking another person’s underwear and putting it on, conjuring up a mental image that will stay with us for a while.
On Monday night of this week, Jon Stewart stuck up for his successor, saying “I think, without hesitation, Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect. Or not.”
