Russell Crowe Will Direct A Bill Hicks Biopic

Russell Crowe has been making cinematic love like a rabbit lately (that’s to say, a lot). Along with a role in next year’s Superman reboot, a spot as Noah on Darren Aronofsky’s Ark, not to mention turns as Dracula and a hotshot cowboy alongside RZA in The Man With The Iron Fists, Rusty’s Career Renaissance will also include making his (maybe) directorial debut on a biopic about the life of the late comedian Bill Hicks, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 32.

Today’s Telegraph is reporting that Crowe will buddy up with scriptwriting schoolmate Mark Staufer, who said that “Bill Hicks’ life is tragically short, but spectacularly interesting. The screenplay has gone through a number of drafts and we’ll go into production early next year. It is a huge role for someone, made all the more special, or downright scary, by the fact the director is an Oscar-winning actor like Russell.

Crowe’s previous attempts at directing have including short films and video clips for his wife, Danielle Spencer, and he has been previously linked to various directing projects, but none appear to had eventuated. Crowe is schedule also to direct a segment of John Polson’s ‘Sydney, I Love You’Sydney Unplugged‘ so who really knows where or when Rusty will make his directorial debut. We’re just glad this is happening:
