Rupert Murdoch Joins Twitter, Needs Wife’s Assistance

Old people on the internet are so cute!

On the first day of 2012, Rupert Murdoch joined Twitter using the handle @rupertmurdoch and a profile picture in which his chin resembles a human brain. Cool!

Like many other octogenarians Murdoch has had to learn the ways and wiles of Twitter with the assistance of a younger, hipper internet user, his wife Wendi Deng.

Deng swooped in for damage control after her husband tweeted a gag about the lagging British economy from his holiday destination in the Caribbean. He wrote: “Maybe Brits have too many holidays for broke country!” A comment Deng quickly intercepted and Murdoch subsequently deleted:

Keep out of it, Deng! As long as it rolls on without further interference, Murdoch’s twitter feed should be well worth following – until his public relations and legal teams catch wind of it.

The internet has responded to the News Corp billionaire’s twitter arrival with the kind of 140-character strings of ire that make it great.
