Battle lines are being drawn in the great Taylor v Kanye skirmish of 2016, after Yeezy debuted his new album The Life Of Pablo via a live stream, and the internet’s attention turned to a lyric in the track ‘Famous‘.
The track references how Ye “might still have sex” with Tay as he “made that bitch famous”, and in the less-than-24 hours since it debuted, it has become the defining moment of his entertainingly scattershot Pablo release campaign.
“Sources” close to Kanye have claimed that Tay was informed of the lyric during a lengthy phone conversation in January, and “got the joke”; Swift’s reps deny this, saying she warned him against sending a “misogynistic” message.
Tay’s friends and supporters have since entered the fray, including none other than Ruby Rose, who has publicly declared herself to be No Longer A Kanye Supporter after this latest incident.
In a series of Tweets, referencing Kanye’s recent brush with Bill Cosby trutherism – fuck, how long ago does that seem? – and his stoush with ex Amber Rose, Rose said:
Too many lines crossed. If I put myself in the shoes of the women he has hurt recently. Victims of Bill Cosby, The Slut shaming, Amber…

And now my dear friend Taylor.. Right before another huge moment for her.. Can I still support him and call myself a feminist? A friend? No.

When called out about whether Tay was actually in on the joke, Rose responded that she’d done her “due diligence” with her mate before weighing in on the situation:
I was talking to Taylor last night. I wouldn’t comment on something before doing due diligence. https://t.co/xbbLDCxPRH

Meanwhile, fellow Tay associate Gigi Hadid Tweeted that her attendance at the Yeezy Season 3 launch yesterday was not an endorsement of Kanye’s whole deal:
My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty.

Taylor Swift will perform at the Grammys next week and it will definitely be a whole thing.
